Early on Dec 10, Uranus ♅, the planet of lightning bolt change, revolution, and freedom, turns direct after five months of being retrograde. Generally, when an outer planet is retrograde, its influence is experienced more on the internal level. When it stations (the time period when it slows down and appears to change direction), its influence is intensified and dramatic. Once it turns direct, outward manifestation becomes more apparent. Uranus is turning direct at the very beginning of Aries ♈, the part of the zodiac that epitomizes abundant raw energy and fresh new beginnings. This is a potent shift.
The spirit of Mercury retrograde, and Venus trine Mars (♀△♂) today
Mercury retrograde can be a time of slowing down and allowing ourselves to tarry/abide/dwell with something that is enriching — or a time to simply be present with something that needs attention. This can be the spirit of Mercury retrograde — letting go of the obsessive drive to go forward... (Things will be moving forward soon enough with Uranus turning direct on 12/10 and Mercury turning direct on 12/13).
For every atom belonging to me as good belongs to you.
I loafe and invite my soul,
I lean and loafe at my ease…observing a spear of summer grass....
Also Venus and Mars are trine today, the yin and yang, the lovers, the opposites — compliment each other, creating harmony between the archetypes of the masculine and the feminine. Within self and without.
Mercury retrograde in Sagittarius ♐ (Nov 24-Dec 13)
Sagittarius is sometimes known as the archetype that likes to share thoughts, beliefs, and wisdom in an enthusiastic and outspoken manner. Jupiter, the large planet that rules Sagittarius, expands everything connected to it. When Mercury is in Sagittarius — we may like to express ourselves — a lot. However when Mercury is retrograde, our minds may not be as clear, we may not have all the facts yet, we may misunderstand what we hear, or we may say too much (but we may also be more intuitive, imaginative, and free thinking during Merc retro)! Mercury retrograde in Sagittarius can be a potent combination — challenging us to be more reflective, mindful, and sensitive about what we say, how we say it, and when we share…
Today Venus in Capricorn trines Jupiter in Taurus — the two benefics make a harmonious connection. Venus, the archetype of love, and Jupiter, the archetype of opportunity, meet one another for a sweet rendezvous. Jupiter is confident and optimistic, Venus is beautiful and affectionate. Both know how to enjoy life to the fullest, but since they are currently in earth signs, it is a grounded and levelheaded occasion.
In the sign of hardworking Capricorn, Venus favors traditional values and practical demonstrations of affection — in the form of tangible structures that will support love over the long haul. In Capricorn, the goddess is learning what makes for strong and lasting relationships and becomes an authority in these matters.
Mercury turned retrograde early on Thanksgiving morning
It can be helpful to know that small travel issues, communication delays, or business glitches (such as being charged twice for something accidentally or not receiving an email) are more common during Mercury retrograde. I mention this not so that we will expect these things, but so we can try to be flexible and flowing if they do occur. The deeper purpose of this part of Mercury’s cycle is to give us a necessary review period, which may include fixing things or situations that we hadn’t before realized were neglected or in need of extra attention. Or perhaps we didnt have the time or it just wasnt the right moment before, because we were too involved with going “forward” in our lives... Mercury is traveling back from 20° to 3º Sagittarius ♐. Where this falls in your chart will be an area of focus over the next few weeks.
An upcoming Solar Eclipse and the preceding Balsamic Moon
There is a New Moon Solar Eclipse on 11/25 (1:10am EST). The last few days before a New Moon (the Balsamic phase) is a quiet and introspective period. Psychologically, it is a time of endings. The urge to withdraw from usual activities to be inward and reflective is typical for many. Once the New Moon phase begins, however, it marks the start of a new lunar cycle — and this one is powerfully charged because of the eclipse. New energy and change are imminent, but how and where depends on the ways in which your individual chart is aspected by this eclipse (for instance, which house the eclipse falls in and if it conjoins or opposes any of your planets or points). The eclipse is at 3º Sagittarius ♐...
Sun square Neptune today: Vitality may not be at its height, nor logic and clarity. It could be more productive to slow down and nurture the right brain side of life. The demand of a square can help one make a shift. With some effort — one may discover intuition, vision, compassion, or mystical love. Even in practical pursuits there may be a dimension of art or transcendent inspiration... Planetary transits are opportunities — we can partner with them to go with the flow instead of resist it.
Mars in Virgo trine Jupiter in Taurus is exact tonight, but its influence may be felt for about a week before and after. Mars, the brave warrior, takes action and initiative to achieve what is desired. Jupiter, the benevolent king, represents increase and positive development. A trine between the two planets gives a natural and easy flow. And both in earth signs support a tangible manifestation… To me this aspect embodies the feeling of opportunity and the inspiration to seize it.
Full Moon in Taurus ♉, Neptune and Chiron turn direct
The Full Moon is the climax of the lunar month and a time to observe with objectivity what is coming to light or to a head. At every Full Moon there is an opposition between the Sun and the Moon, and this polarization and tension of the opposites may be felt within oneself or within ones relationships and circumstances. When the Full Moon is in Taurus, the Sun is in Scorpio: on the one hand, there is a need to let go of the past in order to allow the necessary transformation of the self (Sun in Scorpio) — but on the other hand, there is a valid emotional longing for stability and security (Moon in Taurus), for instance…Read more...
The Sabian symbol for this Full Moon is: “A newly formed continent is seen, fresh and green within its setting of interminable ocean.” Something new is emerging — new ground to stand on and a fresh perspective. Yet it is surrounded by seemingly endless water, which can represent deep feelings, the unknown, or the infinite Divine (all of which can feel frightening to the ego).
Along with this Full Moon, both Neptune and Chiron turn direct after about 5 months of being retrograde. The retrograde period is a time of inner work — on the spiritual level with Neptune — and with Chiron, involves the healing of deep wounds. As both turn direct, we slowly see ways to integrate what we have been working on and move forward.
