Taking a little break from writing...

Hi everyone, thanks for reading my posts! I’ve been taking a break from writing astro blurbs and articles lately, but I haven’t been taking a break from astrology! Life has been great but moving quickly for me. Hopefully I’ll get a chance to focus on my blog again soon! Best wishes!!

We must “stand the tension of the opposites”

Perhaps there is a part that wants to rush forward into a new adventure, ready for the journey ahead, and feeling optimism and faith. Yet there is another part that is cautious, remembering past failures, and shrewdly weighing the pros & cons. 3/28: Jupiter in Aries (sign of “I”) opposition Saturn retrograde in Libra (sign of “we”). Yes, these energies may feel in conflict, yet they balance and temper one another.

This is the last of 3 oppositions between Jupiter and Saturn in this sequence - the first was on May 23 2010, the second on August 16 2010. This may correlate with a final trigger of a certain internal conflict/reconciliation regarding these two different planets (principles) now in opposite signs. Jupiter is about expansion, Saturn is about consolidation...

Jung suggests that we must “stand the tension of the opposites” in order to transcend them... “The apparently unendurable conflict is proof of the rightness of your life. A life without inner contradiction is either only half a life or else a life in the Beyond... The self is made manifest in the opposites and in the conflict between them.”
-C.G. Jung

The Sabian Symbols

The Sabian Symbols are 360 symbolic vignettes each corresponding to a degree of the zodiac. Many astrologers use them in chart interpretation to get a richer sense of meaning for any important planet or point in a chart, such as the Sun, Moon, or Ascendant. For instance, when I was born, the Sun was at 5º41’ Leo. The corresponding Sabian for my Sun is:

Leo 6*: A sweet old-fashioned belle, and a pert and attractive modern flapper, stand in mutual envy of each other.

From the time I was a child and my mother told me this was the symbol for my Sun, it always resonated deeply. As I got older and came to understand my chart as a whole, I began to see how not only did it capture the essence of my core (the Sun), but interestingly it also captured other prominent themes in my chart, such as my Libra Ascendent (balancing opposites, seeing the other side of the story, and a focus on aesthetics etc), my Sun conjunct Saturn (Saturn represents tradition, and therefore is “old-fashioned”) and my Sun/Saturn square Uranus (Uranus represents breaking free from old structures, and therefore fits “a modern flapper.” In some mystical way, the specific Sabian symbol for the degree of my Leo Sun acts as a holon** for my whole chart. Not everyone resonates as obviously and spontaneously with their Sabians; sometimes it takes some contemplation to penetrate into the meaning of the symbol. Read more...

Carl Jung in a letter to Sigmund Freud

“My evenings are taken up very largely with astrology. I make horoscopic calculations in order to find a clue to the core of psychological truth. Some remarkable things have turned up which will certainly appear incredible to you.” ~Carl Jung in a letter to Sigmund Freud, June 12, 1911

Full Moon in Taurus ♉, Neptune and Chiron turn direct

The Full Moon is the climax of the lunar month and a time to observe with objectivity what is coming to light or to a head. At every Full Moon there is an opposition between the Sun and the Moon, and this polarization and tension of the opposites may be felt within oneself or within one’s relationships and circumstances. When the Full Moon is in Taurus, the Sun is in Scorpio: on the one hand, there is a need to let go of the past in order to allow the necessary transformation of the self (Sun in Scorpio) — but on the other hand, there is a valid emotional longing for stability and security (Moon in Taurus), for instance…Read more...

A New Moon in Virgo ♍ tonight

There is a New Moon in Virgo tonight at 11:04p EDT, representing first the end of one cycle... And then the beginning of a fresh new one.

The Sabian symbol for this new beginning is: “Children’s voices and the smiles of elders; it is a merry go round with blatant music and unrestrained joyousness.”

The Virgo archetype represents necessary, honest, and critical analysis — of self first and foremost, and then directing that precise vision outward — for the purpose of improving the capacity to be of service... How do we embrace the current Virgo energy of work and service along with the potent New Moon symbol of “unrestrained joyousness?” On the surface the two themes may appear in stark contrast. Yet, as The Course in Miracles states, “To give and to receive are one in truth.” Read more...

A Full Moon in Capricorn

A Full Moon at 23º Capricorn. The corresponding Sabian Symbol: “The army is erect in a long faultless line as resplendent officers confer upon a private two awards for bravery.” Whether the recognition or reward is coming from outside or not, witness and honor yourself for your courage and strength in the face of life’s challenges. Be proud of yourself for your achievements - for growing into who you are today.

“One faces in great struggle, something one fears. The ‘private’ refers to someone who is not responsible for figuring out strategies for winning the battle, but follows orders. The orders the private in oneself receives come from ‘ranks’ that represent authority that is truly inner higher spiritual authority for one.” ~Diane Applebaum, Sabian Symbol Extraordinaire

New Moon Solar Eclipse in Cancer ♋

Early on 7/1/2011 there is a New Moon Solar Eclipse. Eclipses “clip” something out. This can be something we have been holding on to, which needs to be released, or something we are glad to see go. Either way, and though this can be difficult to appreciate at the time, the change matures us and advances our soul growth.

The eclipse is at 10º Cancer ♋. The Sabian Symbol for this eclipse is: “A large and beautiful diamond, in the hand of the lapidary, is now to be cut to its full perfection.” Curiously, this symbol echoes the eclipse theme of something of oneself being cut (or clipped, e-clip-sed), so that the facets of self reflect the inner divine light more perfectly. Today could be a magical day!

There is a potential for love, beauty, abundance, and joy to vibrantly flow - everywhere. Venus, Mercury, and Jupiter gather at 25º Aries. The Sabian Symbol for this special meeting: “A double promise is revealed by some suggestive event of both immediate or literal and sentimental significance.” ...The word ‘promise’ is associated with divine assurance of one’s ultimate wholeness.
