Mercury retrograde and revisiting old problems

There are instances when Mercury retrograde seems to bring the necessity of revisiting a problem (or problems) you thought you already solved. The challenge suddenly and mysteriously reappears and demands your attention again. The problem asks for resolution in another dimension of the issue — or at a deeper level. (Sigh) Here we go again! The Full Moon tonight may bring things to a head, and hopefully a light of clarity as well.

Mercury retrograde = review mode

Mercury retrograde often corresponds to a time period for getting around to matters that were put on the back burner before — for at the time it just didn’t feel right to press forward or it was impossible to do so. But now as Mercury is in review mode — repairs, important conversations, and other timely adjustments may present themselves in a natural way for resolution.

Q&A about Mercury direct

Question from a reader:

Marlena,

Do you have brief thoughts?

I am working out some agreements.

Is Mercury direct today or will there be a shadow period?  Is Mars something to consider in terms of agreements, and if so, when is that out of shadow/ retro and direct?

Thanks!

A week of internal new beginnings and “seed moments”

We have a New Moon each month as the Moon conjoins the Sun. This moment marks the beginning of a new lunar cycle. When the Sun meets up in this way with any planet, it marks a new cycle, a sort of new birth, for that planet. So in addition to a New Moon we could have a “New Venus” or a “New Jupiter”. The conjunction with the Sun is said to be a “seed moment” for the planet. This week has been full of new beginnings and seed moments: Read more...

Mercury ☿ goes direct tonight

Mercury goes direct tonight at 8:43p EST. While Mercury is changing directions (apparently to us from our perspective on Earth), his trickster ways can be even more active. In response to miscommunications, misunderstandings, delays, or mistakes — I am reminding myself things like: the same word can mean very different things to different people, and there is no real rush, everything in its perfect time, etc. Typically, Mercury retrograde issues can be remedied with a little extra care. And after today, communications, purchases, contracts, and moving forward in general will most likely have less resistance and more momentum.

The spirit of Mercury retrograde, and Venus trine Mars (♀△♂) today

Mercury retrograde can be a time of slowing down and allowing ourselves to tarry/abide/dwell with something that is enriching — or a time to simply be present with something that needs attention. This can be the spirit of Mercury retrograde — letting go of the obsessive drive to go forward... (Things will be moving forward soon enough with Uranus turning direct on 12/10 and Mercury turning direct on 12/13).

Mercury retrograde in Sagittarius ♐ (Nov 24-Dec 13)

Sagittarius is sometimes known as the archetype that likes to share thoughts, beliefs, and wisdom in an enthusiastic and outspoken manner. Jupiter, the large planet that rules Sagittarius, expands everything connected to it. When Mercury is in Sagittarius — we may like to express ourselves — a lot. However when Mercury is retrograde, our minds may not be as clear, we may not have all the facts yet, we may misunderstand what we hear, or we may say too much (but we may also be more intuitive, imaginative, and free thinking during Merc retro)! Mercury retrograde in Sagittarius can be a potent combination — challenging us to be more reflective, mindful, and sensitive about what we say, how we say it, and when we share…

Mercury turned retrograde early on Thanksgiving morning

It can be helpful to know that small travel issues, communication delays, or business glitches (such as being charged twice for something accidentally or not receiving an email) are more common during Mercury retrograde. I mention this not so that we will expect these things, but so we can try to be flexible and flowing if they do occur. The deeper purpose of this part of Mercury’s cycle is to give us a necessary review period, which may include fixing things or situations that we hadn’t before realized were neglected or in need of extra attention. Or perhaps we didn’t have the time or it just wasn’t the right moment before, because we were too involved with going “forward” in our lives... Mercury is traveling back from 20° to 3º Sagittarius ♐. Where this falls in your chart will be an area of focus over the next few weeks.

We’re gearing up for another Mercury retrograde (Nov 24-Dec 13)

Mercury retrograde is a wonderful opportunity to slow down the increasingly busy pace of day-to-day life and attempt to calm the restless “monkey mind.” Beginning tomorrow, Nov 5th, Mercury enters it’s shadow (the time preceding Mercury retrograde), meaning that everything Mercury-related (travel, commerce, and communication, etc) will potentially have to be reviewed or redone when Mercury retraces his steps over the same segment of the zodiac. The shadow period, and the retrograde period even more so, are ideal times to be extra conscientious, patient, and attentive to details, so as to minimize misunderstandings, confusion, or other small mistakes (such as uninformed or impulse purchases... I’m planning on using this period as a shopping fast, buying only routine or necessary things, as opposed to new or important items)!

Jupiter retrograde and the Jupiter/Pluto trine - my reply to a client’s concern

Recently a client expressed anxiety about Jupiter being retrograde, after having multiple frustrating experiences with the last Mercury retrograde, and asked for further clarification and reassurance from me about this current retrograde planet. This is easy to give as Jupiter retrograde is a completely different story from Mercury retrograde. Mercury rules everyday business and communication, so when it is moving backwards slowing things down, it can be frustrating if day-to-day circumstances in our lives need to move forward quickly. In this particular client’s case, Mercury was retrograding back into the part of his chart which has to do with communication and day-to-day business (the 3rd house, Mercury’s own house) —meaning he may have experienced a double whammy in terms of miscommunications, problems, and delays regarding everyday decisions and issues. Then Mercury retrograded back into the area of his chart which has to do with resources — financial and otherwise (the 2nd house). This could have corresponded with serious re-thinking about his finances. Perhaps the economy being rather volatile lately added to his stress. Read more...
