Astrological Counseling

“My evenings are taken up very largely with astrology. I make horoscopic calculations in order to find a clue to the core of psychological truth. Some remarkable things have turned up which will certainly appear incredible to you.”

~Carl Jung in a letter to Sigmund Freud (June 12, 1911)

Astrological Counseling

I offer astrological counseling for psycho-spiritual exploration, understanding, and transformation. Astrology utilized in this way can be a missing key for deep inner work and can shed light on the path towards greater harmony with the natural rhythms and cycles of one’s life journey. My approach to astrology is to share the potentials and opportunities I see while exploring how the symbols and archetypes are manifesting uniquely for each individual. Astrology is a wonderful tool for self-knowledge and a help in times of challenge or transition. It can facilitate tremendous insight and peace, as well as provide timelines for certain archetypal or energetic influences reflected in our lives and inner states of being. Consultations available for birth chart exploration, current influences, relationship dynamics, and timing for important events.

Astrology and free will

Albertus Magnus, a famous Dominican friar of the Middle Ages, and proponent of astrology with free will, “cites Ptolemy to show that astrologers do not believe in fatal necessity and that consequently the art of astrology is not irreconcilable with Christianity. He wrote, ‘The knowing soul can help the celestial operation, just as the sower can help the strength of plants through careful cultivation and weeding.’”

(Quote from Sue Toohey)

Churchill, Hitler, and Reagan used astrology?

“Does it worry you that the high muck-a-mucks of our political, legal, medical and economic systems use astrology? During World War II, Churchill had several astrologers working for him. He didn’t have to believe in astrology, but he wanted to know what Hitler’s astrologers were telling him. Even President Reagan has admitted he believes in astrology, so much so that his birth time is, in reality, different from the ones we see printed in the magazines...”

Neptune enters Pisces

With the powerful and dynamic celestial events as of late, today we have a softening & gentle, yet significant influence: Neptune, the planet of spirituality, enters it’s corresponding sign, Pisces. This is a big shift as Neptune will be spending the next 14 years in the shimmery waters of Pisces (minus a short retrograde into Aquarius)! Compassion, unity consciousness, and unconditional love are strongly supported!

Neptune in Pisces wisdom: “A Sufi story tells of a student who complains to his teacher about the cruel realities of the world. The teacher replies, ‘Yes, of course, but if it weren’t for the hidden work of those who pray, imagine, dream, and act compassionately when the opportunity presents itself, things would be much worse.’” ~Caroline Casey

We must “stand the tension of the opposites”

Perhaps there is a part that wants to rush forward into a new adventure, ready for the journey ahead, and feeling optimism and faith. Yet there is another part that is cautious, remembering past failures, and shrewdly weighing the pros & cons. 3/28: Jupiter in Aries (sign of “I”) opposition Saturn retrograde in Libra (sign of “we”). Yes, these energies may feel in conflict, yet they balance and temper one another.

This is the last of 3 oppositions between Jupiter and Saturn in this sequence - the first was on May 23 2010, the second on August 16 2010. This may correlate with a final trigger of a certain internal conflict/reconciliation regarding these two different planets (principles) now in opposite signs. Jupiter is about expansion, Saturn is about consolidation...

Jung suggests that we must “stand the tension of the opposites” in order to transcend them... “The apparently unendurable conflict is proof of the rightness of your life. A life without inner contradiction is either only half a life or else a life in the Beyond... The self is made manifest in the opposites and in the conflict between them.”
-C.G. Jung

The natal chart

“Anyone seriously interested and willing to do a bit of systematic research can easily verify that the natal chart depicts the basic psychological and emotional makeup of the individual...The configurations of the heavenly bodies do not, however, enable us to foretell future events. They are maps of individual and collective psychological probabilities. Events occur in synchronistic conformity at such times as the field dynamics of the progressions resonate with the individual’s readiness.” ~Edward C. Whitmont in The Alchemy of Healing

As above, so below. As within, so without.

Many ask how astrology works. Here is the best explanation I know of: “True without error, certain and most true: that which is above is as that which is below, and that which is below is as that which is above, for performing the miracles of the One Thing; and as all things were from One, by the mediation of One, so all things arose from this One Thing...”

~The Emerald Tablets of Hermes

“No birth-chart is better than any other”

“No birth-chart is better than any other. One is always better for some one purpose. But as all purposes are equally valuable and necessary in the economy of the greater Whole, each man’s chart is better for the purposes of his life than is anybody else’s.” ~Dane Rudhyar

Astrology helps one “become what one is”

One of the gifts astrology offers is to help one “become what one is” (Dane Rudhyar). Rather than trying to fit into a concept of what one thinks one should be or to pursue a path set by others, astrology helps one to discover oneself for who one is, accept oneself, and grow into one’s full and unique potential.

Feel the restful, blue-black velvet of deep space

“All around you: feel the restful, blue-black velvet of deep space. It supports you as the sky supports the stars. Floating in the center, entirely trusting the cradling silence, you are being created moment-to-moment by the power of a wise Presence that never abandons you.” ~Penney Peirce

It was a star that guided the three Wise Men

“According to Christian tradition it was a star that had guided the three Wise Men (who in the original Greek are called astrologers) to Bethlehem... The consensus of opinion among modern astrologers is that the ‘star’ of Bethlehem was in fact a conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn in Pisces... an exceptional phenomenon that the Wise Men would have considered a major omen”~Larousse Encyclopedia of Astrology
