Both my mother and birth father were students of astrology since before I was born. My mother took classes back in the 1970s and owned seemingly every astrology book in existence at that time. She used to calculate her own charts before computer programs did that for us and had a collection of beautifully drawn and colored charts for all of her loved ones. Although it didnt mean too much to me while I was growing up, now I appreciate how astrology was an aspect of my daily life. It was one of the textures that comprised the background of my upbringing.
Although I always found astrology fascinating, it wasn’t until right before my first Saturn Return that I was inspired to take a deeper look into this ancient system of understanding. Intuitively I felt guided to turn to astrology for insight while facing a new level of transformation and growth taking place in my life. This is the gift of astrology. It offers peace, understanding, and self-acceptance — by gaining insight into the soul patterns that are at play at the time of birth and over time throughout the incarnation. If we think of ourselves as part of a great unity — the planets are not random external objects exerting control over us, but rather parts of the whole. In this light it makes sense that we feel the cycles of these bodies in the sky — correlating with and reflecting our experiences... “That which is above is like that which is below and that which is below is like that which is above, to achieve the wonders of the one thing” (From the Emerald Tablet, an ancient philosophical text).
Along with my love of astrology is a love of psychology. Before delving more deeply into astrology, I received a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology in Palo Alto, CA. Before that, a Bachelor of Arts in Individual Concentration in Psychodrama and a minor in Psychology from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. I also did many trainings with Zerka Moreno, co-founder of Psychodrama; and John Firman & Ann Gila, pioneers in the field of Psychosynthesis. I worked as a counselor with adults, couples, and teens in a homeless shelter; with children in an elementary school doing non-directive play therapy; and for 4 years I worked with a solar energy company serving as Executive Assistant to the CEO. Some of my other big loves include yoga, dance, herbalism, nutrition, and Nonviolent Communication.
